Despite late-campaign drama regarding the veracity of his resume, incumbent New York Senator Richard Johnson has retained his seat by a 9-point margin, elections experts announced early Wednesday morning.

Thanos’ campaign was riddled with drama from the start. He first gained national attention during the New York Republican primary for promoting the conspiracy that evanescences are a cover-up for government-sactioned disappearances, particularly of white conservative males. In late June, his college transcripts were revealed to be falsified, leading to closer scrutiy of his resume that unearthed several other discrepancies in his employment, education, and family history.

Rather than hurting his polling numbers, however, the revelation that he’d falsfied his life story seemed to galvanize his base, securing nearly 90% of the votes from conservative white males in the 18-35 age group. The election also saw a record number of first-time voters in this demographic, nearly all of whom cast their vote for Thanos.

Democratic challenger Roger Bergman said he was “disappointed but not surprised” by the results in his concession announcement early Wednesday. Bergman’s campaign was also plagued by controversy when several former female staffers made allegations of misconduct. Bergman quickly apologized for the behavior, though he also noted the accusations were from decades earlier in his political career and, furthermore, “at least I didn’t lie about it.”

The Johnson campaign could not be reached for comment.
